Fall Festival Fundraiser
Plan to join us for this virtual live event that will feature student, alumni and professional speakers to celebrate the great work that WSA does everyday to fulfill its mission as a college preparatory school that graduates accomplished, creative, intellectually curious young adults prepared to contribute responsibly to the world. WSA is devoting a portion of the budget ordinarily spent on an in-person event to purchase amazing door prizes valued at roughly $200 to $500 each from local businesses, People who pledge to make annual or monthly gifts and those who attend the live event will be eligible for prizes. By shopping locally we hope to leverage our event to also help small businesses in our community.
The school’s total fundraising goal for the year is $180,000 and the Fall Festival is the celebration that serves to both kick off that effort and make significant progress toward reaching this goal. Donations are tax deductible and directly benefit students by helping us fill the gap between revenue and true costs to run the school. This includes programming, teacher salaries, facilities maintenance, and expansion of the capacity of the Sliding Scale Tuition model. The more of this goal we reach at the event, the less the school needs to worry about making up this difference throughout the school year.
WSA's Development Story
Traditionally, West Sound Academy conducts two major fundraising campaigns each year: The Annual Auction Gala and the Annual Visionary Campaign. In 2020, in-person events are not possible with the COVID-19 pandemic and putting added burden on local businesses to donate to the Auction is inappropriate. In 2019, West Sound Academy also suspended all scholarship programs and transitioned from a traditional Financial Aid program to a Sliding Scale Tuition Model allowing families to pay at the tuition level commensurate with their income. Placement on the scale is limited at each level as indicated by the graphic below.
Successfully reaching our goal of raising $180,000 this year allows WSA to open up more capacity at each level helping to make WSA accessible to students from all economic backgrounds. Since our fundraiser this fall had to be virtual and the Annual Visionary Campaign serves to raise funds for the same effort, WSA has combined these two campaigns into one effort: the Fall Fundraiser.
We have set our celebratory virtual event early in the school year – October 3. One reason for this is to encourage families to pledge to make monthly recurring gifts. Monthly donations are automatically charged to a credit card each month until the student graduates, withdraws or at the end of a term indicated by the donor. Monthly donation pledges make giving easy!
