Summer Program

During the summer of 2021, West Sound Academy is offering high school courses for credit to students entering 9th to 12th grade in the fall of 2021.  These courses are open to both currently enrolled WSA students and students enrolled in other regional schools or homeschool programs. Registration fee and requirements are described below. Full course descriptions are in the 2021 Summer Program Course Catalog.

We intend to run these classes on our campus located at 16571 Creative Drive NW, Poulsbo, WA 98370, four days per week. Fridays will be reserved for individual Zoom meetings with teachers and asynchronous work at home.  If pandemic conditions require full remote learning, the courses will be cancelled, and refunds issued.  If the minimum enrollment of 10 students in a class is not met, that class will be cancelled.

High School Credit

The high school courses listed above are awarded .5 credit upon successful completion.  WSA will provide an official transcript. However, it is recommended that the student show the course syllabus to the registrar of their current school to confirm the school will recognize the WSA credit.  Syllabi are available upon request.

Attendance

Due to the condensed nature of the class, attendance is critical to the student’s success. Students who miss more than 5 hours (whether absent or tardy) of the class time total are at risk of not passing the class. As such, families and students commit to being available for all weeks of the term and will plan vacations, work, and appointments outside of class time.  For on-site class time, students who fall ill or are quarantined due to COVID-19 exposure will be given the opportunity to work asynchronously and remotely.  Classes meet Monday to Thursday on-site. Friday is reserved for one-on-one Zoom meetings with teachers and asynchronous work at home.

COVID-19 Safety

Students will practice CDC-recommended practices while attending on-site classes. These include pre-screening, screening before entry, socially distant seating, mask-wearing, and increased ventilation.

Requirements

Please note the math course descriptions in the 2021 Summer Program Course Catalog for any required pre-requisite classes. There are no pre-requisite classes for history, language, and English classes. Students will need to bring a laptop computer with wireless capability to each class.  The student’s computer will also need a camera and microphone for Zoom meetings.  Internet access at home is expected. No food or drink is available on campus, so students will need to bring their own snacks and beverages. Food and drinks are consumed outside only. Microwaves and hot kettles are available.

Tuition

Tuition is set on a Sliding Scale from $300 to $1500 per class. Placement on the scale is dependent upon the family’s income.  Students wishing to be placed on the scale submit a Family Financial Worksheet Summer Program 2021 (FFW-SP) and W-2 or tax return with their registration application – all documents are due on June 1, 2021.  WSA students with a FFW already on file do not need to submit another worksheet. A family that does not wish to submit a FFW-SP is opting for the maximum tuition rate of $1500 per class. Notifications of tuition placement are provided to registrants by June 10, 2021.  Tuition Payment is due June 17, 2021.

Registration

All students are required to submit a 2021 WSA Summer Program Registration Form. Non-WSA students are also required to submit an official transcript from their most recent school. There is no registration fee. Registration is due by June 1, 2021. Classes not meeting the minimum enrollment of 10 students will be cancelled.
