Code, Circuits, and Smart Devices

MORNING JUNE TERM – In this hands-on STEM workshop, students built and programmed interactive devices using the BBC micro:bit—a tiny programmable computer packed with lights, sensors, sound, and wireless communication. Students learned the basics of Python programming while experimenting with how software interacts with the physical world. Along the way, the class explored the ideas behind simple electrical circuits, including voltage, current, and resistance. Each student received their own micro:bit to keep at the end of June Term so they can continue inventing and exploring long after the course ends. Micro:bit can even power wearable electronics, opening the door to creative projects such as interactive badges, games, or sensor-based gadgets that respond to motion or sound.
