Our Annual Fall Gathering Brings the West Sound Academy Community Together
There’s just something special about stepping outside the usual school-day routine and coming together to have fun, build relationships, and strengthen our sense of community. This fall, West Sound Academy students and faculty did just that during our annual Fall Gathering—a day filled with laughter, teamwork, creativity, friendly problem-solving, and plenty of school spirit.
The day began with students gathering in their advisories before heading to the Commons, where they were welcomed by student leaders and faculty. Students were divided into color teams, setting the stage for a full day of activities designed to engage everyone and foster teamwork.
And there was no shortage of ways to participate!
Throughout the morning, teams rotated through five different activities: a rope challenge on the field, an escape room, icebreaker games, a Toxic Waste team challenge, and Jeopardy. Each activity offered a different opportunity for students to communicate, problem-solve, laugh together, and discover new strengths in their teammates.
The rotation system also meant students were constantly moving and creating opportunities for connections across all grade levels.
Whether they were strategizing their way through an escape room, tackling a tricky team challenge, answering Jeopardy questions, or simply getting to know one another through icebreakers, the emphasis was on collaboration, having fun together and setting the tone for the new school year.
Student Leadership in Action
A highlight of Fall Gathering was the role played by our student leaders. June Term leadership students helped plan and organize the entire day's activities, prepared materials, guided teams from one activity to the next, and helped keep the day running smoothly.
Their leadership was evident throughout the event—from setting the tone for the day and welcoming their classmates in the morning to facilitating activities and helping with transitions. It was a wonderful example of our students taking ownership of their school community and creating a shared experience.
After the morning's activities, everyone regrouped for lunch before the afternoon brought even more creativity and team work. Students rotated through art activities and a collection of mini-games, working with larger groups and continuing to build connections beyond their usual advisory and friend groups.
The day wrapped up with an all-school potato game and a popsicle party—a fittingly fun conclusion to a day centered on community.
Finally, students returned to their advisories to reflect on the experience and wrap up the day together.
Our Fall Gathering is more than just a day away from the regular schedule. It is a chance for our community to pause, play, connect, and remember that some of the most meaningful moments at school happen when we have the opportunity to learn about one another outside the classroom.
