Applying to WSA
Is West Sound Academy an IB school?
Yes. West Sound Academy is an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, offering the two-year Diploma Programme for students in grades 11 and 12. West Sound Academy offers a continuous educational pathway that nurtures academic excellence, personal growth, and global citizenship. Students in Grades 6–10 explore traditional subjects through interdisciplinary projects and inquiry-based learning.The IB framework develops critical thinking, strong communication skills, and a global perspective, preparing students for college and beyond.
What grades does West Sound Academy serve?
West Sound Academy is an independent school serving students in grades 6–12 on our campus in Poulsbo, Washington.
How do I apply to West Sound Academy?
Start by completing an application through our online admissions portal. The application process gives us an opportunity to get to know your student’s interests, strengths, experiences, and what they are looking for in a school community.

When should we apply?
Our priority application deadline is February 15, with admission decisions released by March 15. After the priority admission period, we continue to accept and review applications on a rolling basis as space is available.
Families interested in WSA are encouraged to begin the process early, particularly when applying for a grade with limited space.

What materials required to apply?
The application includes an online form, school records, and teacher recommendations. Additional steps, such as a student visit or family conversation, may be part of the process.

Can we visit before applying?
Absolutely. In fact, we encourage it.
Visiting WSA is one of the best ways to understand our school. You'll have an opportunity to see our campus, learn more about our academic program, ask questions, and experience the relationships and sense of community that distinguish WSA.
Prospective students may also have opportunities to spend time on campus and experience a school day.
Tuition & Accessibility
How much does West Sound Academy cost?
West Sound Academy uses a Sliding-Scale Tuition model designed to make a WSA education accessible to families with a wide range of financial circumstances.
Rather than assuming that the published tuition represents what every family will pay, we encourage interested families to explore the sliding-scale process and determine what tuition may look like for their family.

How does Sliding-Scale Tuition work?
Families seeking an adjusted tuition complete a confidential financial application through Clarity, an independent third-party service. The information provided helps WSA determine a tuition level appropriate to the family's financial circumstances.
Applying for Sliding-Scale Tuition is separate from the admission decision, and we encourage families not to assume that a WSA education is beyond their reach without exploring the process.
Practical Questions
What is the daily school schedule?
School begins at 8:20 a.m. and ends at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Wednesday is an early-release day, with dismissal at 1:15 p.m.
Students follow an alternating block schedule, giving classes longer periods for discussion, labs, projects, performances, and other in-depth learning experiences.
Do you offer transportation?
Yes. WSA currently provides van transportation to and from Bainbridge Island and Poulsbo.
Routes, stops, availability, and fees may change from year to year, so please contact us for current transportation information.
Does WSA offer athletics?
West Sound Academy does not have its own traditional athletic teams. However, WSA students are eligible to participate in sports offered by their local public school district, allowing students who want to compete in school athletics to do so while attending WSA. We work with students and families to help coordinate participation with their local teams.
On campus, WSA also offers Knowledge Bowl, a competitive academic team for students in grades 9–12 that competes against schools throughout the region and state.
Does my student need a laptop?
Yes. WSA has a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program, and students are expected to bring a laptop to school each day.
Families provide the device, and a variety of laptop brands and models can meet our requirements. Our technology information provides current specifications and recommendations to help families select an appropriate device.
What do students do for lunch?
Students bring lunch from home, and they have access to microwaves and hot water for preparing food. WSA also offers optional lunches for purchase on designated days during the week.
All grades share the same lunch period. Students can spend time with friends, participate in student clubs and activities, or simply enjoy a break in the day, making lunch another opportunity to connect across the school community.

Is West Sound Academy the right fit for my student?
There isn't one type of WSA student.
Our students bring different personalities, interests, strengths, and learning styles to the community. Some arrive knowing exactly what they are passionate about; others are still discovering it. Some are naturally confident in the classroom; others find their voice over time.
