Popcorn, ponies, and pop quiz questions: WSA’s talk show takes over the Commons.
On Wednesday, February 25, Stepper McCrery’s Advisory of 6th, 7th, and 8th graders hosted the WSA community to “The Wednesday Afternoon Show” in the Commons. Two days earlier, WSA students were invited to submit anonymous questions for faculty, admin and seniors who would be appearing on the talk show as guests.
Students saw this as an opportunity to get real answers, real stories, and real perspectives from the very people who shape their school. As Stepper McCrery explained, “Schools are full of mysteries, like: What do teachers actually think? How have seniors survived high school for as long as they have? What the heck do admins do all day? This panel lets students ask the questions they’re genuinely curious about."
On the day of the Wednesday Afternoon Show, producer Lucy Guerechit '30 came out on stage to prep the audience, explaining how the show hosts would present the questions to the guests.
The audience was encouraged to practice applauding with enthusiasm!
First up: host Annie Strum '30 interviewing Mr. Paul and Mr. Luca.
Paul Burback, WSA music teacher:
Q: What is the most used phrase in your class?
A: Lock in, everybody!
Lightening Round Q: Coffee or tea?
A: Definitely coffee!
Luca Brambilla, WSA science and math teacher:
Q: How many countries have you visited?
A: At least 2, and for sure fewer than 196. It's probably somewhere closer to the 40 range, but I can tell you that my favorite I've been to is Norway.
Q: What is the most often used word/phrase in your class?
A: It would probably have to be "equation".
The next host for the show was Jackson Herboldshimer '30, interviewing Ms. Thalia and Ms. Bernice.
Thalia Wolff, WSA Theatre and Language and Literature teacher:
Q: Have you ever seen 'My Little Pony' and if so, what is your pony-sona?
A: Yes, and I relate most to the character of Twilight Sparkle because I love reading; I would like to live amongst the trees; I, too, believe that friendship is magic; and my favorite color is purple.

The next host, Everly Lindgren '31, interviewed Mr. Ben, WSA math teacher, and Mr. Forrest, WSA humanities teacher and Yearbook advisor.

Host Rose Glover '32 followed, interviewing Ms. Cari and Ms. Freeman, who had some of the more challenging questions of the afternoon.
Catherine Freeman, WSA Head of School:
Q: Why don’t we have sports?
A: At our size, it is challenging to field competitive teams, and offering school-based sports would make students ineligible to play at their local public schools, which can provide more teams and options.
Q: Why aren’t there more microwaves in the Commons?
A: The building’s electrical system cannot support additional microwaves without overloading circuits and tripping breakers. To help support hot lunches, we have installed instant hot water in Baker and Ryan.
Host Sofia Rios '31 finished off the show with an interview of two of our seniors, Caitlin McLain and Wyatt McCrery.
The Wednesday Afternoon Show producer Lucy Guerechit came back on stage and proclaimed, “And that’s a wrap!”
