Thespian & Drama Club Retreat: a day of inspiration and leadership

WSA Thespians and Drama Club Retreat, August 25, 2024

Members of West Sound Academy Thespians and Drama Club were the only students on campus on the last weekend before the first day of school. They came to spend an inspiring and transformative retreat day that was designed to empower and equip our members as student leaders within our community and not just within our organization. The objective was to learn valuable skills and gain the vision needed for a successful year ahead.

This retreat was a unique opportunity to connect with fellow club members, engage in meaningful activities, and lay the groundwork for a dynamic and productive year.

The course of the retreat (besides eating pizza and candy) was participation in the following activities:

  1. Team building activities and games
  2. Reviewing and revising our mission statement
  3. Reviewing and revising the Thespian and Drama Club Handbook
  4. Setting goals for the year
  5. Outlining the dangers that can derail a Thespian Troupe or the theatre process
  6. Outlining what exactly Thespians and Drama Club members do at our school

This is where they will establish comprehensive guidelines that will govern the operations of the group, ensuring efficiency, accountability, and consistency. They will discuss and agree on protocols for decision-making, conflict resolution, and other critical aspects of group functioning.

The Officers of Thespians and Drama Club for the 2024-25 school year are:

Kieran Merrifield-Peterman - President

Sophie Bracamonte - Vice President

Peyton Miller - Secretary

Mackenzie Hofferty and Elliot Layton -Dramaturg(s)

Kenna Wales, Costume, Wig, and Prop Manager

Alex Fitch - Media Director

Juniper Wolff - Social Action and Service Chair

At the end of the retreat, the themes that resonated with the students and in their work were inclusivity, social awareness, and collaboration.  We are excited about the year ahead and look forward to seeing the positive impact our Thespians and Drama Club members will have on our school community!
