We are seeking a dependable, proactive Maintenance & Facilities Technician who takes pride in creating clean, safe, and welcoming spaces for students, families, faculty, and visitors.
Position Overview
The Facilities & Maintenance Technician helps ensure that West Sound Academy’s campus is clean, safe, attractive, and operating efficiently each day. This position combines custodial responsibilities with preventive maintenance, minor repairs, painting, and event support to create an exceptional learning environment.
The ideal candidate is self-motivated, organized, and takes pride in maintaining high standards while working independently. This role is well-suited for someone who enjoys a variety of tasks and appreciates being an important part of a close-knit school community.
Key Responsibilities
Campus Cleaning & Custodial Services
- Perform daily cleaning of classrooms, offices, restrooms, common areas, and shared spaces.
- Vacuum, sweep, mop, dust, sanitize, and disinfect school facilities.
- Empty trash and recycling receptacles and maintain waste collection areas.
- Replenish restroom and cleaning supplies.
- Monitor custodial and maintenance supplies and communicate inventory needs in a timely manner.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness throughout the campus.
Building Maintenance & Repairs
- Perform routine preventative maintenance throughout the campus.
- Complete minor repairs, including replacing light fixtures, repairing furniture, adjusting doors and locks, and basic plumbing and electrical maintenance within skill level.
- Prepare classrooms and facilities for daily use and special events.
- Conduct regular inspections of school facilities to identify preventative maintenance needs before they become larger issues.
- Coordinate larger repairs with outside contractors when appropriate.
Painting & Facility Improvements
- Prepare, paint, and touch up classrooms, offices, hallways, and other campus spaces.
- Assist with small facility improvement projects, including painting, repairs, and classroom refreshes.
- Help maintain an attractive, well-cared-for campus environment.
Grounds & Campus Appearance
- Assist with maintaining walkways, outdoor gathering areas, parking lots, and entrances.
- Monitor campus for safety hazards and address issues promptly.
- Support seasonal campus preparation, including weather-related cleanup and event setup.
Event & Operational Support
- Set up and take down tables, chairs, and equipment for school events, performances, meetings, and community activities.
- Assist with campus logistics during evening and weekend events as needed.
- Support emergency response and facility needs during unexpected situations.
Safety & Compliance
- Maintain a safe working environment and follow all applicable safety procedures.
- Safely operate and maintain custodial equipment and tools.
- Ensure cleaning products and maintenance supplies are stored and used properly.
- Report safety concerns, equipment issues, and facility needs promptly.
Perform other facilities-related duties as assigned in support of school operations.
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in custodial work, facilities maintenance, building maintenance, or a related field.
- Ability to perform routine maintenance, minor repairs, and painting.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical work, including standing, bending, climbing ladders, and working both indoors and outdoors.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Preferred
- Experience working in a school or other educational setting.
- Knowledge of basic plumbing, electrical, HVAC, or carpentry.
- Experience operating maintenance equipment and power tools.

Application Details
This is a part-time, 12-month position based in Poulsbo, Washington. Compensation is $25.00–$30.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check and verification of eligibility to work in the United States.
